Black Opal
Australia's Black Opal fields are located in New South Wales, around Lightning Ridge, and in the nearby fields of Coocoran, Grawin and Glengarry. The opals are excavated with heavy equipment by experienced miners. Research has shown that a Black Opal of average quality and size is at least 1000 times rarer than the average one-carat gem diamond.
